The Turkish Get-Up is an old exercise.  It has been around for I don’t even know how long, but allegedly the strong men of yesteryear could perform this exercise or movement, with behemoth weights.  It has been done with barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells and even sandbags.  It has gained popularity in the past few years, which I think is awesome.  As Master RKC and modern day all around strongman Dave Whitley has said, “The really beautiful thing about the Get-Up is that it covers just about every way the human body can move, if you do it the way that we teach it at the RKC.  There’s a lot of different ways to do a Get-Up.  Some good, some not so good.”  I’m happy that people are learning this exercise.  The benefits are many.  Just be cautious of where you get your fitness information.  Learn it, practice it and practice it again.  Remember what coach Bob says, “If you’ve never done it before, you don’t need to do a weight, you can just like, hold the arm up.”

  • I'm going to take a stab at it and guess that it's the get-up video that has been disabled/removed/made private by the owner. Which tells me that their technique must be so special that only a privileged few are allowed to see…

      Good call Brandon. As you can see from just the still picture that remains before you press play, it is in fact quite special. (or especially dangerous when done with weight)
